Gorgeous Gulmarg literally the 'meadow of
flowers' is 57 km. from Srinagar and one of the
most unique hill resorts of the world this.
This huge grassy cup-shaped meadow at an
altitude of 2657 meters is surrounded by fir
trees and majestic snow-clad peaks. It is said
to be first discovered by Yusouf Shah Chek a
Kashmiri ruler in fifth century and was earlier
known as 'Gaurimarg' in honour of Gauri the
consort of Lord Shiva the resort was later
renamed as Gulmarg by the 'Mughals'
With pretty views of green undulating country in spring and snow blanket in winter, its often called Switzerland of India. Gulmarg is famous for skiing, often national level skiing competitions take place here. Gulmarg has a fine 18 hole green golf course which is highest in the world. Gulmarg also has the longest cable car of Asia which takes you to an altitude of 30,000 feet above sea level.
Picturesque Pahalgam an idyllic resort set on the confluence of Lidder Rive and Shesnag streams is endowed with enormous natural beauty and scenic vistas It's perfect place for leisure, pleasure and relaxation and has metamorphosed from a humble shepherd's village to Kashmir's premier tourist resort. Pahalagam is also an important trekking base, the most famous being the holy Pilgrimage to the Amaranth cave. It is 96 kms .from Srinagar and is connected by road. The pilgrimage to amaranth is a testimonial to the faith and gift of an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. It's amazing to see pilgrims from all walks of life eagerly undertaking this difficult trek noted for inhospitable terrain and climate. The state government makes elaborate arrangements for pilgrims and are well supported by volunteers. "Chhari.Mubarak" the symbolic emblem of Lord Shiva is carried on foot by devotees from Srinagar to the Amaranth cave in various stages . The traditional route from Pahlagam to Amaranth via Chandanwari, Shesnag and Panchtarni is endowed with breathtaking vistas. The 47 km distance is covered in four days with night halts at Chandanwari Sheshnag (Wawjan) and Panchtarini. The distance between Pahalagam and Chandanwari can now be covered by road. One can also visit amaranth from Sonamarg side. The trek to the sacred site is just 16 km starting from Baltal.
Situated at an altitude of 2730 m, Sonamarg ('The meadow of gold') has, as its backdrop, snowy mountains against a cerulean sky. The Sindh River that meanders through the valley abounds with trout and mahaseer. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to Thajiwas glacier, which is a major local attraction during the summer months.
Sonamarg is the base of a major trek that passes along several mountain lakes -Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and Gangabal. Sonamarg is also the take off station for the drive to Ladakh across the Zojila, a major pass in the Great Himalayan Range, through which the Srinagar-Leh Road passes.
Sonamarg is also a base for undertaking the yatra to the holy Amarnath cave, during Sawan Purnima. For details about the yatra, refer to the Amaranathji Yatra Link. The drive to Sonamarg is through the Sindh Valley which presents yet another spectacular facet of countryside in Kashmir.
50 kms southeast of Srinagar, one and half hour journey through pine and fir forests. On the way to Yusmarg is the shrine of famous Kashmiri sufi saint : Sheikh Noor-ud-din, popularly known as Nunda Rishi. One can go up to Nilnag Lake either by foot or on a pony back. There is Tourist huts available. Neel Nag of Yusmarg would have been one among the sources of Jehlum, the second source (present) day source at Verinag was the third source of the river. However, the geologists widely are of the opinion that Neelnag (Yusmargh), whose water level always remain constant even in the rainy days owes to the reason that it must be contributing its precious water to 'Verinag' owing to the transfer of water from lake at higher altitude to the lake at lower place.
One of the best garden to visit in Month of April in Srinagar, Tulip Garden is located in Siraj Bagh area, covering the banks of Dal lake with a colorful carpet of flowers. With an area of around 12 hectares, it is also known as the largest tulip garden in the whole of Asia. The famous Tulip Garden in Srinagar was created in the year 2006-07 by the chief minister of the state, Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad. This was done in order to boost tourism in the Kashmir valley. Flaunting hundreds of varieties of Tulips, the enchanting garden sprawls over the foothills of Zabarwan mountain ranges, overlooking the picturesque Dal Lake.
Mansbal is a Scenic Quiet Lake situated just 30 Kms from Srinagar City Center. In spite of its proximity to the city, Manasbal is one of the least known and least visited Resort near Srinagar City when Compared to Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens etc. This makes it a perfect place for a quiet day out with friends and family.
The lake also has facilities for Shikara Riding. Shikaras are the Kashmir Counterparts of Gondolas of Venice. They are small wooden boats suited for ride by 3-4 people. The ride is an experience a few people can forget.
The Lake is surrounded by mountains from three sides. A beautiful and well maintained Garden overlooks the Lake. Its a nice place for having lunch before a boating trip.
Manasbal is situated in GANDERBAL District. Its about 15 Kms from Soura and 18kms from Hazrathbal Shrine and just 7 Kms from the Khirbawhani Shrine at Tulmulla.
Delightful Dal, the largest lake of the city is indeed an icon and focal Point of Srinagar. The lovely lake measure 63 kms and is divided by causeways in to four parts - Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal and Nag in lake. Both Lokut Dal and Bod Dal have an island in the center called as Rup Lank or Char Chinar and Sona Lank respectively. The beautiful Char Chinar island is named after the four stately china trees. The Nagin lake at the foot of shirdhara [Zabarwan] mountain is the smallest and the most beautiful part of the Dal. The deep blue waters of the lake are encircled by a ring of green willow and poplar trees.
HOUSE BOAT & SHIKARAS
The Dal lake is famous for its majestic houseboats and shikaras. A house boat is furnished luxuriously with rich wood carved interiors, laid with beautiful Persian carpets and priceless Kashmiri handicrafts. Stayng in a houseboat is a very unique and unforgettable experience. The houseboats can be reached by shikaras the gondola and like boats , with spring cushions seats and silken curtains. The shikaras are also used for pleasure rides ,which is one of the most shooting and relaxing aspect of holidays in Kashmir,
The white marble mosque with a dome and a minaret is located on the north-west shore of the Dal lake .it enshrines a holy hair (baal) of Prophet Mohammed and is regarded as one of the holiest mosques of Kashmir.
It lies on the banks of Dal lake just below the Zaberwan mountain range and is the busiest area on the boulevard with number of house boats on the banks , the park is ideally located and affords a fine views of the lake. It is beautifully illuminated in the evenings
The magnificent garden overlooking the city and lovely lake was built by emperor Shah Jahan in 1632, under the supervision of Ali Mardan. It is the smallest of Srinagar's Mughal Gardens with three artistically designed terraces and a natural spring of water enclosed in a stone pavilion the water of the spring here here is said to possess some curative properties, especially for stomach aliments.
Nishat bagh or the 'Garden of Bliss' was built in 1633, by Asif Khan the brother of empress Nur Jahan. The Garden is set picturesquely on the banks of the Dal with majestic Zaberwan hill forming the backdrop. It is the largest of the gardens with several terraces and a central water course flowing elegantly through it.

Harwan Garden is situated in the district of

Harwan is a popular picnic spot. A beautiful
canal, fed from a lake just behind the garden,
passes through its center. The canal is
bordered with blossoming flowerbeds and chinar
trees. Kashmir Harwan Garden does not have the
usual terraces, artificial fountains, etc, like
the other gardens of Kashmir. It has been
deliberately kept devoid of these man-made
things. The main attraction of the Harwan
garden of Kashmir, India, is its natural beauty
that is present in plenty. The big lawns,
carpeted with green grass, draw people
automatically towards this place. An ideal spot
for picnics and excursions, Harwan is the
perfect place to take long walks in the lap of
nature. It also serves as a take-off point for
visiting Dachi Gam Wild life sanctuary and a
starting point of a Mahadev Mountain trek.
The ancient temple of Shankaracharrya nestles on the Takht-i-Sullaiman hill about 1000 ft about Srinagar city the present shine dedicated to Lord Shiva dates back to emperor Jehangir's time and is said to be built on the site where the great Advaita philosopher saint Adi Shankracharya stayed during his visit to Kashmir about ten centuries ago.
